The Great Migration: When and Where to See It in Tanzania
The Great Migration is one of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife spectacles. Over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with zebras and gazelles, follow the rains in a continuous cycle of life, death, and renewal across the Serengeti. Nas Royal Safaris offers front-row access to this unforgettable journey.
The Migration Route
-
December – March: Southern Serengeti (Ndutu area)
This is calving season. Witness thousands of newborns and dramatic predator-prey interactions. -
April – May: Central Serengeti
Herds move north as rains end. Though quieter, this is a great time for peaceful game drives and lush landscapes. -
June – July: Western Corridor
Herds cross the Grumeti River—expect crocodile encounters and thrilling scenes. -
August – October: Northern Serengeti
The famous Mara River crossings occur here, as wildebeest risk it all to reach the Maasai Mara. -
November: Return south
The herds begin migrating back, completing the circle.
