7-Day Kilimanjaro Trekking Tour Lemosho Route
7 Day Kilimanjaro Trekking Lemosho Route, Discover the captivating beauty of Mount Kilimanjaro on the Lemosho Route, a less-crowded and scenic path that begins on the mountain’s western side. This 7-day adventure offers a unique combination of natural beauty, varied landscapes, and a challenging ascent, making it an ideal choice for those seeking an extraordinary trekking experience.
The journey begins with two days of trekking through lush rainforest. You’ll hear vibrant wildlife and see towering vegetation all around you. As you ascend, the terrain changes dramatically. It opens into heath and moorland filled with bright ferns and blooming ericas. This creates a stunning contrast to the dense rainforest below.
. The trail occasionally narrows and introduces steep sections, adding excitement and a sense of adventure to your climb.
By the third day, the Lemosho Route joins the popular Machame Route. This offers a mix of tranquility and camaraderie with fellow climbers. The merged route continues to provide striking views of Kilimanjaro’s diverse ecosystems. You’ll see rocky landscapes and panoramic vistas of the surrounding plains
Compared to the Machame Route and Rongai Routes, the Lemosho Route is more challenging, especially for trekkers seeking a true test of physical and mental endurance. Moreover, its gradual ascent and well-planned itinerary offer plenty of time for acclimatization. As a result, your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak, the mountain’s ice-capped summit, increase significantly.
At the end of each day, you’ll rest in comfortable tents at designated campsites. Enjoy a peaceful retreat under the star-studded Tanzanian skies. The Lemosho Route combines stunning scenery and challenging terrain. Its rewarding summit experience makes it a favorite for seasoned adventurers and nature lovers
Embarking on the Lemosho Route is more than just a climb—it’s a journey through Kilimanjaro’s extraordinary landscapes and a true test of your resilience and determination.

Arusha – Lemosho Gate (2,385 m) – Big Tree Camp (2,780 m)
In the morning, you’ll be picked up from the lodge and transported to the Lemosho Gate (2,385 m). Upon arrival, you will undergo registration with the national park authorities, marking the commencement of your trek through a dense rainforest. Following a moderately steep track, you’ll navigate through an incredible and untouched natural forest, ultimately reaching your destination for the day, the Big Tree Camp.
Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Big Tree Camp (2,780 m) – Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m)
Today’s extensive trek kicks off on a narrow trail winding through the rainforest. As the elevation increases, the forest gradually gives way to heath and moorland, where the dominant landscape is adorned with plants like erica and lobelia. Crossing the Shira Ridge, after 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Shira Camp 1. This is where you’ll break for lunch, take some time to relax, and relish the breathtaking views of Mt Meru and the Rift Valley.
For the final stretch of the climb, approximately 3 hours, you’ll ascend another 250 meters in altitude. The scenery will undergo yet another transformation as you pass by giant senecios that can reach heights of almost 9 meters. At Shira Camp 2, you’ll set up camp for the night, and if luck is on your side, you might enjoy a stunning view of the Kibo summit at sunset.
Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Shira Camp 2 (3,900 m) – Lava Tower (4,640 m) – Barranco Camp (3,960 m)
Today’s climb involves ascending approximately 700 meters, but you’ll spend the night at an elevation only slightly higher than the previous night. This intentional approach allows your body to acclimatize effectively, as you reach an altitude of over 4,600 meters before descending again. This strategy provides insights into how your body reacts to such altitudes.
The trek commences with a lengthy ascent above the Shira Plateau towards the Lava Tower. The vegetation becomes sparser, transitioning the landscape into an alpine desert. The climb takes you through the expansive Barranco Valley, adorned with lobelia and giant senecio plants. After 6 to 7 hours of walking, you’ll arrive at the Barranco Camp, often regarded as one of the most beautiful camps on Kilimanjaro.
Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Barranco Camp (3,960 m) – Karanga Camp (4,035 m)
Today’s trekking route features numerous ascents and descents, and shortly after setting out, you’ll confront the steepest section of the entire route—the Barranco Wall. At times, you may need to use your hands for support as there are no designated climbing “paths.” Safety is of utmost importance, and your guides will provide assistance whenever necessary. Once you reach the top of the Barranco Wall, the journey continues along the mountain ridge. From this vantage point, you’ll be treated to fantastic views of the southern glacier of Kibo and the summit itself. You’ll arrive at Karanga Camp around lunchtime.
Meals for the day include breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Karanga Camp (4,035 m) – Barafu Camp (4,640 m)
